In an update posted to Stampede Entertainment’s news blog, the team behind the first Tremors movie followed up last fall’s announcement that it has reclaimed the rights to the original script.
Months later, there’s some clarification as to what that means for fans of the Tremors franchise: “We’ve been exploring what this may allow us to do, so here’s the update. First, we aren’t reading outside ideas. We are discussing a return-to-Perfection sequel, and one or two more outlandish ideas featuring graboids in new settings. Whatever we decide to pitch to Hollywood, it will not be a remake the first movie with a new cast. Nor will it be a version of our original script for Tremors 5.”
The original Tremors spawned several direct-to-video sequels and a TV series, though a second series that would have brought back OG lead Kevin Bacon never made it to the airwaves. Not unlike a Halloween re-quel, a direct movie sequel to Tremors could be in the works with the star.
“We are considering ideas that feature the return of Kevin Bacon as Val, but no promises!” Stampede teased.
The idea makes sense—there’s still a lot of love for the Tremors franchise, and Bacon makes everything better. Plus, it’s the age of worms in movies thanks to Dune and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Why not add a graboid revival in there too?
